IRF - Flip Challenge

IRF - Flip Challenge

Knowing how to effectively flip a raft can be one of the most crucial skills a boater can have practicing this skill and training regularly helps keep you super sharp and ready for whatever the river throws at you. Because of this one of the requirements of the International Rafting Federation (IRF) Guide Training and Education (GTE) standards is the flip test.

The 2 Minute Flip Test

This test starts in the water with a righted raft. The participant must complete the following steps in 2 minutes:

  • Mount the righted raft

  • Flip the righted raft

  • Remount the flipped raft

  • Count your swimmers

  • Right the flipped raft

  • Remount the now righted raft

The flip test is a requirement for passing the GTE certification and a fantastic test to try out the next time you are on the water. We highly encourage all boaters to train regularly and prepare for whatever might happen. If you finish your next trip in some calm water take a few minutes to challenge everyone in your boating group to give this a try. If you want to learn more about this test and the IRF Qualifications you can find more info below.
