Confluir - The Fight to Save the Marañón
Over twenty hydroelectric dams have been proposed for the principle tributary of the Amazon River. The currently free-flowing Marañón River cuts through the Andes Mountains and helps sustain resident communities as well as the most diverse ecosystem on Earth.
The title means “Come Together,” and the story follows an international group of scientists and river experts investigating the Grand Canyon of the Amazon on a month-long rafting trip. With echoes from the first descent of the river, the crew navigates intricate whitewater as well as the environmental and social issues presented by dams on the principle tributary of the Amazon.
As they learn about the different local communities coming together to save the river they call home, the question turns to how national and international communities can join them in the fight for one of the last great free-flowing rivers.
